What Is Die Cutting?

Millennium Die Group Water Jet Cutting ServiceDie-cutting is a necessary process used by many manufacturers to create various shapes on their products. People can do die-cutting manually or with the use of machines. Typically, die cutter machines help to streamline the process.

What Is A RF Heat Sealing Die?

When an RF Heating Sealing dies cut through packaging, it heats the plastic or paper, creating a permanent bond between the two materials. The die cutting machine then removes the excess material around the shape, leaving a perfectly formed piece of packaging.

This strong seal from the cutting die is imperative to guarantee the integrity of the package contents.

Brass, Aluminum & Stainless Thermal Sealing

Millennium Die offers a variety of thermal sealing equipment and solutions to ensure you get the best results possible. Our aluminum, brass, stainless steel, and other thermoplastic materials are available in various thicknesses and widths.

When working with aluminum materials, brass materials, and other thermoplastic materials, the more durable the material, the stronger the bond the die cut machine will create.

Medical And Pharmaceutical Applications For RF Sealing

Millennium Die Group Water Jet Cutting ServiceWe are ensuring the integrity of bladders and bags used in the medical industry to help protect patients’ health and wellbeing.

Quality sealing is critical when dealing with medical and pharmaceutical products such as medications, blood pressure cuffs, intravenous bags, blood bags, medical inflatables, and fluids.

RF Sealing creates reliable seals that prevent leaks from occurring and keep the contents inside sterile.

Other Common Applications For RF Heat Sealers

A continuous band sealer and constant heat sealers create a perfect seal every time. These tools are ideal for multiple consumer product applications where multiple items or surfaces must attach for optimal results. Examples include:

  • Loose-Leaf Binders
  • Pocket Protectors
  • Die Cut Stickers
  • Die Cut Paper
  • Business Card Die Cutter
  • Leather Die Cutter
  • Fabric Die Cutter
  • Dies For Card Making
  • Craft Dies
  • Christmas Die Cutters
  • Wood Die Cutter
  • Inflatable Toys
  • Product Packaging
  • Blister Packaging
  • Tarps
  • Tents
  • Awnings
  • Pool Liners
  • Plastic Sheets

Considering how many common products and commercial applications utilize this technology, you’ll understand why RF sealing is so popular. A form fill seal heat seal saves money on packaging while maintaining the product’s integrity and ensuring your customers’ safety. From custom die cut stickers to pocket protectors, a cutting die plays a role.

What Is The History Behind Electronic Heat Sealing?

RF heat sealing is a relatively recent technology. Dr. Robert H. Glatt first invented it in the 1960s. He was working for an engineering firm called E&S Engineering Inc., which specialized in manufacturing equipment for the medical industry.

After many years of research, he found a material that met his requirements and patented it. Nowadays, there are many different types of heat-sealable materials available. Some common ones include polypropylene, vinyl, urethane, nylon, styrene, PETG, cellulose acetate, polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG), and others.

What Factors Affect Seal Strength?

When using RF Heating, several factors can affect the strength of the seal. They include:

Material Thickness – The thicker the material, the stronger the seal. The reason is that the heat travels through the material more quickly. Therefore, when dealing with thin materials like paper, plastic, foil, etc., the heat will not penetrate deep enough into the material to properly melt the surface.

Temperature – Higher temperatures increase the speed of melting. Conversely, lower temperatures take longer to soften the material and create an adhesive seal.

Pressure – High pressures cause the melted area to expand rapidly, creating a solid bond between the two pieces of material. Conversely, low pressures allow the melted area to spread over a larger area, resulting in weaker bonds.

Selection Of RF Sealing Equipment

There are various types of RF sealing equipment available. Here are some examples:

Continuous Band Sealers – These machines use a heated roller to apply pressure onto the item, getting sealed continuously. The constant band sealer creates a strong seal without any gaps or imperfections.

Constant Temperature Sealers – These machines have a heating element that maintains a specific temperature throughout the process. Continuous temperature sealers are great for sealing small areas or objects that need a precise amount of heat.

Pulse Width Modulated Sealers – Pulse width modulation (PWM) is a method of controlling voltage levels by varying the duration of each pulse. PWM allows for a wide range of control over the power delivered to the heater.

How Does RF Sealing Work?

As mentioned above, RF sealing applies heat to seal the object. Once the material melts, it flows together under the force of the press until it cools down again.

How Does RF Sealing Compare To Other Methods?

Compared to other methods of sealing, RF sealing has several advantages. For example, it does not require special tools like clamps or adhesives. In addition, it produces a very clean seal.

It is much faster than most other methods. As a result, many people consider RF sealing among the quickest and most effective ways of sealing.

RF sealing is less expensive than other methods. However, this doesn’t mean that companies are sacrificing sealant quality. Instead, they’re investing in more innovative, durable packaging and products that help them meet the high expectations of their end-users.
